RAPE, ITS JUSTIFICATION AND VICTIM SHAMING

It's sad that this is a world where things are not perfect but isn't that why we have laws; to correct the ills in society? I read today on a blog about a filmmaker who said that "nonviolent rape" should be legalized and that the reason rapists were raping girls was because they were sexually frustrated and that girls should accept it and even prepare themselves for it by carrying condoms and cooperating with their rapists. In fact it is clear that civilization is beyond running water and having flushable toilets, a lot of minds are still in a dark place. Before you join the number of people condemning him, think of how you shame victims of rape by suggesting that somehow they did something to provoke the animal instinct in the rapist.

The dust hasn't settled yet on the case of Busola Dakolo and Biodun Fatoyinbo where an Abuja high court struck out the case and called an abuse of court processes and said it was statue barred. They were irregularities as cited by the Dakolos even before the case began as the case was moved to Abuja where Biodun Fatoyinbo is domiciled and has influence instead of Lagos where the complaint was initially filed. Lawyers said the case was dismissed for lack of evidence but the question is do you need evidence to convict a criminal when its not as if someone would have the frame of to record a crime being committed against him\her. The law says you should be able to prove a case beyond reasonable doubt so on the strength of the argument, couldn't the case have been proven?

Biodun Fatoyinbo you may have escaped human justice but there is one whose justice you can't escape and that is God. He clearly said in his word that though hand join in hand, the wicked can never go unpunished. The christian community is sick. Yes, the church is sick. You would keep finding people who justify evil with the word of God. CAN (Christian Association of Nigeria) called it a victory for Christianity. No CAN, it is not a victory for Christianity, it is not even a victory for Biodun Fatoyinbo. The  Bible clearly tells us that we should not marvel for even Satan has transformed into an angel of light and his ministers as angels of righteousness, their end will be what their work deserves.

Finally to the people shaming the victim, you are best classified as educated illiterates. You don't even know your left from your right yet you carry a certificate. Someone said we have more important issues in this country, why should we then be concerned about someone who was raped? It is because we do not deal with things like this in this country that is why our leaders are corrupt since we have no moral right to correct them. The truth will surely prevail.

THE GAINS AND LOSSES OF THE ABSENCE OF MR PRESIDENT: BY UWAKWE ROLAND.

President Muhammadu Buhari has been absent from duty since the last few months on a purported medical checkup in London. Good a thing he legally transferred power to the Vice President who is now the acting President, this is unlike the imbroglio that played out during Yar’adua’s time when the National Assembly had to invoke the doctrine of necessity so as to effectively transfer power to then Vice President Goodluck Jonathan. The problem is that even as an acting President, Yemi Osinbanjo has limited powers to fully assume responsibility as the commander in chief, this is because most of the big government functionaries may still owe their loyalty to Mr President, couple with this, Buhari appointed people of his like minds who may not comfortably work with the acting President that will want to bring his knowledge of law and practice into governance. Hence the long absence of Mr President may eventually result to a slow down of democratic dividends. The above ...

DANGER OF A SINGLE STORY: THE CASE OF OWERRI

It was the young female novelist, Chimamanda Adichie who first drew the world’s attention to the dangers of a single story and warned that if we hear only a single story about another person, city or country, we risk a critical misunderstanding. Hence, I intend to do a series on the danger(s) of a single story. Owerri is the capital city of Imo state with a population of 127,213 people (2006 Census). It is one of the fastest growing cities in Nigeria and based on the relative peace in the city, Owerri attracts a lot of visitors and investors. However, there is a growing perception both in and outside the city that, it is a city of pleasure seekers and yahoo boys. Nduji Chukwudi Destiny, recently posted on his Facebook wall that: “if you are in Owerri and you are not into politics, prostitution or Yahoo, my brother forget it, nothing for you”. While few persons may get some meaning in the above remark by Destiny. I think it is an exaggeration and a wrong...
