WHEN ELIGIBLE BACHELORS MARRY USED GIRLS

I saw recently a post on one of my favourite blogs, an honest question by a group of concerned and perplexed good girls asking why eligible bachelors are getting married to bad girls or retired "runs" girls. The question was addressed to a popular relationship blogger and he attempted to supply the answer but in my own opinion did not do a good job of doing so. So here is my own attempt and advice to these girls: World over, strange things are happening, didn't begin now but has recently become more frequent. There is a total loss of values and what was once being frowned upon is now generally accepted. The world seems to have shifted from its center and its now totally upside down and the good old values we were brought up with is now being rejected and discarded and what is accepted today are things that were before termed abominable. In simple terms, good is now bad and bad is now good. Don't fret however, this group of eligible bachelors marrying these women are

LOVE IS OVERRATED

We often mistake lust for love and many people mistake infatuation for true love. So many people preach that if you are no longer happy in a marriage then you should just call it quits. How about telling people to remember what made them happy in the first place and work on getting back to that place. A man wakes up in the morning and tells his wife he wants a divorce because he has fallen in love with someone else even when children are involved. The fact that you once proposed marriage to a person means you once considered her above every woman, how then do you discover years into the marriage that you love another? Especially after having kids. You probably have seen a slimmer woman or a pretty face or a sexy woman and concluded that you now have a new love. The desire for something new is not usually love but an attraction which can be classified as lust or infatuation. Any time you put your new flame above your children, then you know that you are deep in lust. Sex is an integra

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME

Hurray, it's my birthday today and i'm super excited. Thank you my readers because you are the reason why I blog. It's been a year's journey with you and through it you have been very constant. As I celebrate today, I am much happier because I have you all. Thank you very much.

NORTH KOREA'S NUCLEAR THREATS: A BALANCED PERSPECTIVE TO THE ISSUE, Uwakwe Roland.

It is no longer news that North Korea has conducted series of successful nuclear test, threatening the peace of mankind. There is a prediction in some quarters that if the actions of the North Korean leader is not checked by the global community that it may eventually lead to a Third World War. During and after the Cold War there were series of moves by the nuclear powers to destroy and stop the production of nuclear weapons, but all to no avail. In fact during the Cold War we had the SALT 1 and SALT II  and later the IAEA was formed to control the productions of nuclear weapons by nation state, however the activity was thwarted by the so called powerful states in a bid to maintain their hegemony. International politics is not played on the basis of morality or fair play, at its best , it is the survival of the fittest, this is the reason why all the five permanent members of security council have nuclear weapons and the counties that are respected are the ones with nuclear weapons.

RE-VISITING THE POWER SECTOR

We know that the last administration of President Goodluck Jonathan in an attempt to solve the nation's power challenges privatized the power sector to different enterpreneurs. The move however failed to supply the much needed power for the nation's consumption. After President Buhari's takeover, not much has happened with regards to providing power to run industries, homes and business on which the economy depends . The current minister of power has introduced the energy mix strategy to help supplement what the country generates but so far it hasn't impacted much on the power problem. We have a situation right now where power generated comes from hydro power plants, gas and renewable energy. And we know so far, the combined power generated from these sources have been too little to serve the country. But do we know that Nigeria flares gas everyday and wastes what could be added power generation from gas. Why not open the power sector like the telecommunications sect

IF ACTING IS A PROFESSION?

Many lies have been told by people who want to subvert the moral standards of society and sell us a warped reality. Amongst these lies is the one that says nudity and porn in Nigerian home videos is a mark  of professionalism. That it is an art and that if it is acceptable in Hollywood then it should be acceptable in Nigeria. What part of it is wrong and not part of us do they not understand? We cannot keep importing the ills of the western society and call it civilization even when it is clear that it is destroying them. How many lives have been impacted by these so called romantic scenes and has it made the people who enjoy it more responsible citizens of society? Indian movies are amongst the most popular in the world today and they do it without even a kiss in their movies. Why can't Nigerians emulate them? Why is it only bad things they copy from America? And these are adults! It is sickening. Stealing is not a profession the same way posing naked and pornography are not p

THE THREE (3) SIDES OF BIAFRA: BY UWAKWE ROLAND

I have keenly watched people from different parts of this country agitate or vent their anger either in support or against the renewed movement for ‘Biafra’ and from what I have gathered so far there are three categories of people in this agitation. We have those who still hold the memories of Biafra, there are those who see Biafra as a means to end the injustice in our land and those who want a sovereign territory known as the State of Biafra. Let’s analyze the above postulations. The Nigeria Civil War was a war that was fought among brothers and sisters even though the commanders did not actually have this at the back of their minds. The war would have been averted if the protagonist were as matured and knowledgeable as the leaders of USA and USSR who during the Cuban Missile Crisis averted a major world war by just a phone call. The war brought distrust, disaffection and disunity among sister tribes. The post war policies instead of healing wounds created more disa

WHY ARE BUSINESSES FAILING IN NIGERIA? A LOOK AT ARIK AIR AND ETISALAT

The sole reason why businesses fail in Nigeria is lack of leadership. Business leaders in Nigeria are sometimes incompetent, not tested and therefore not trusted. Many people rise to positions in the business world not because of merit and hard work but because of connections. There is  the problem of lack of integrity where board members share the company's profit amongst themselves instead of channeling it to further grow the business. There is also another problem of taking huge loans from banks without a well thought out process of how to pay back or even completely mismanaging the funds. Arik air is owing large sums of money and so is Etisalat... A lot of employees depend on these businesses for their livelihood. Why don't they think of the impact on the economy before allowing greed and selfishness take over. This is really disheartening .

ON SARAKI'S ACQUITTAL

Nigerian lawyers are not brilliant so much so that any complexity in a case they are handling leaves them confused and defeated. Nigerian judges are archaic not knowing what a landmark judgement is. The Nigerian police is traditional preferring to respect high ranking members of society even when they have cases to answer. The result is an unreliable justice system that cannot take care of the demands of the nation. What sort of proof do Nigerian judges expect to see when it's not as if the police were recording the process when the crime was being committed? The rate of failure at the Nigerian law school bar exams tells you the quality of lawyers we are churning out year after year. When last did you hear of a brilliant lawyer in Nigeria? Even politicians' children are failing . The Nigerian police is not enthusiastic about cases involving high members of society, they would easily believe the "baba" and even ask why you are prosecuting him. Saraki has been

ON VIRGINITY AND FEELING SPECIAL

Girls are often advised by their parents, society and the church to keep their virginity till marriage which is supposed to be a good thing actually. The problem with this advice is that a lot of people who heed it cannot tell the difference between being a virgin and being frigid. So they carry their virginity into marriage and become frigid afterwards. Being a virgin doesn ' t stop you from falling in love and having desires, it only stops you from experimenting with sex oftentimes with the wrong person. To wait till marriage is to trust God to bring the right person into your life when you are ready, usually somebody who is worth it. You shouldn't feel a sense of loss when you loose your virginity to your husband instead you should feel a sense of accomplishment. The sense of accomplishment comes from knowing that you waited until your wedding night which is the normal thing. From then on you are supposed to have pleasurable sex with your husband with no inhibitions. So ma

THE HEALTH CONDITION OF MR PRESIDENT:

It is completely normal for any human being to get sick from time to time. It is a reminder that we are mortals’. Mr. President is a mortal who can be sick at a split of seconds; he is not a super human.  However, I think why his health condition is becoming a national debate to some sorts is because of the kind of system of government we run. A presidential system of government presupposes that the entire administration is centered on just a ‘person’; this is unlike the parliamentary system of government. Again, the presidential media aids are not helping matters as they are keeping the health condition of Mr President secret, creating room for speculations among Nigerians as to what has happened to the man they elected as a leader. Sincerely, the President needs some medical holiday as suggested by some esteemed Nigerians and anybody denying him of such opportunity is an enemy of the President and the nation. The people who are giving fake prophecy that if something happens to Mr

USING TAXATION TO BREACH THE RICH POOR GAP IN NIGERIA

Nigeria is a very rich country in terms of its GDP and by the volume of trade transactions that flows from the country every year but in terms of per capita income, Nigeria remains one of the poorest nations on earth. This is why sometimes; there could be huge economic growth with no development and lack of job creation. The rate of poverty in the land is so high that records show that over 85 percent of Nigerians live below the poverty line and the remaining 15 percent cannot be said to be rich because of the overwhelming pressure the rest of the population will heap on them, so by logical conclusion nobody could be said to be wealthy from the true sense of the word. Taxation is a means by which government finance their expenditure by imposing charges on citizens and corporate entities. Generally, taxation is used to encourage or discourage certain economic decisions, for example reduction in taxable personal (or household) income by the amount paid as interest on home mortgage loans

WHO NEEDS A WHISTLE?

Happy Easter to Christians over the world as we all mark and celebrate the death and resurrection of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ which is the true foundation of Christianity. As Nigerians join Christians all over the world to celebrate, we pray that the message of easter which is peace and love for neighbour will reflect in the lives of every Nigerian. But what is trending this easter period in the country today is the whistle blower policy which is already yielding results. Monies have been recovered so far in uncompleted buildings, markets and luxury homes. The latest being the $48M cash amongst other currencies recovered in a luxury home in Ikoyi. The whistle blower who blew the whistle said an unidentified woman usually comes to the said house to drop bags. According to the whistle blower this woman always comes in tattered clothes but the suspicious thing about this was that the woman was not tattered herself. When the EFCC went in and made the discoveries of the money a

EEDC: AN OLD WINE IN A NEW WRONG BOTTLE

The recent action by the Enugu State House of Assembly to declare an emergency action on the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company is a step in the right direction. The legislators have shown that they are true representative of the people; this is unlike the situation in Imo State where members of the House of Assembly are busy romancing with the executive arm of government, thus neglecting their primary functions. Since the beginning of this year, the electricity bill from the EEDC has continued to double every month with no appreciable improvement in power supply.  For example as at December last year, my bill was around N2, 000, by January it increased to around N4, 000 and before I knew what was happening, it came to N8, 000 by February 2017.  This is coupled with a reduction in power supply. As a result of which, I went to their office, thinking it was a mistake only to be informed that that the bill is not calculated by them and that customers should go and ask the Regulatory

OKAFOR'S LAW AND OMONI OBOLI'S CONTRIBUTION TO SOCIETY

Omoni Oboli needs little or no introduction. Anyone current in the Nigerian entertainment scene would know the love interest of kunle Afolayan in the movie figurine. She happens to be a wife in real life and a mother of 3 children. After starring in figurine, she moved on to become a movie producer, producing her own movies and featuring some times in other movie productions. This article is actually about a movie titled Okafor's Law which she produced recently although it has been the source of an imbroglio with a court case attached to it. The reason being that a canadian based scriptwriter is accusing her of copyright violations of the script of the movie. But that is hardly why I am bothered. My cause for concern has to do with the story of the movie. For those who do not know, the Okafor's Law behind the plot of the movie has to do with a theory that says that Once a man has slept with a woman, chances are he is likely to do so again and again even if the woman in t

THE DANGER OF A SINGLE STORY: THE CASE OF MBAISE

The word Mbaise comes from two Igbo words, “Mba” and “ise” which literally mean five towns or five kingdoms as the case maybe. Before 1941 the name Mbaise was not in existence. it was just around the 1940’s that the five towns of  Agbaja, Ahiara, Ekwereazu, Ezi-na-ihite and Oke ovoro came together to form the Mbaise union. The unity that came with the amalgamation of these five kingdoms frightened their neighbours; hence they were subsequently labeled as bad people. This notion passed from one generation to another.  Mbaise is a great nation from the true sense of the word, which is why her sons and daughters are visible in the socio-political landscape of Nigeria. It is wrong to label an entire clan with a predetermined set of behaviour; that will amount to a fallacy of hasty generation. Mbaise sons and daughters are hardworking people. Mbaise is one of the fastest growing towns in Nigeria. The presence of the Banking sector is pointer to the industrial genius of the people. As at t

THE REPORT FROM THE ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION BUREAU ON THE DANA AIR CRASH

Yesterday was World Consumer Rights day and I was saddened because we do not have consumer rights protection in Nigeria. The world consumer rights day coincided with a landmark judgment by a federal high court against Nafdac and The Nigerian Bottling Company(makers of popular soft drinks Coke, Fanta and Sprite) on a case which was in determination for eight years when it was discovered that a combination of Fanta or Sprite with Vitamin C is poisonous. But what this is really about is the lack of Consumer Rights Protection laws in Nigeria. Foreigners who come to do business in Nigeria are aware of these and use our countrymen/women as specimen on whom they can test anything on with nobody protecting them. A Dana Aircraft crashed in 2012 and after the crash, a source told the press that the aircraft was not fit to fly in the first place and was undergoing engine repairs but the management of Dana airlines(who are Indians by the way) asked that the aircraft be flown after it was just r

APOSTLE SULIEMAN, ALLEGATIONS AND SEX SCANDALS

This matter is trending and trending quite well with many people divided especially on what to believe. I just want to remind my readers that nothing has been proven yet and the sensitivity of the matter should be taken into consideration till the case goes through in court. Some people say this scandal was inspired by APC to tarnish the image of the man of God for speaking against their anti-people policies, others who are mostly cold Christians and atheists are saying they would never pay offering in church again as pastors are using it to enlist the services of prostitutes. It is my opinion that even if this trial goes through and the man of God is found guilty then it wouldn't be the first time when perverse people hide under the cloak of being in the clergy while actually being a fluke. The bible says marvel not for even Satan himself has been transformed into an angel of light. The bible also tells us to test every spirit as not every spirit is from God. We are a society

THE ECONOMY OF THE STATES OF THE NATION

Just recently, the Vanguard personality of the year awards were held in lagos. The event took place in Victoria Island and awards were presented to different people in different categories. What I find notable in this awards was the presentation of performing governors of the year awards for 2016. Four governors were presented with these awards and they are in no particular order, the governors of Kebbi, Cross River, Lagos and Anambra states. These awards presented were well deserved of the honouraries so awarded . In case you are wondering why, let me reel out the accomplishments of the governors awarded in their various states. Kebbi state: Implementation of agriculture in the quest for the self-sufficiency in food production agenda of the federal government. Producing rice and wheat in large quantities and providing jobs for about 600,000 people across that value chain. Cross River: Execution of projects across the state and providing people-friendly opportunities for dwellers

RAPE, CONSENT AND THE HYPOCRISY OF DOUBLE STANDARDS

I do not watch bbnaija but I have been seeing the issue trending online about the housemate who was disqualified for sexually molesting a fellow housemate. This trending issue sparked off the debate both on social media and local television about the given consent or not hashtag. Well rape is not a pleasant experience and no woman should be raped no matter what or sexually abused. However I am concerned that the organizers of the show deemed it fit to react to what they termed an infringement on a woman's right but turned a blind eye to the perverse and immoral conduct of its other housemates. Women's rights have no place in a world bereft of morals if not you confuse the men. How is it alright for others to do some things and get away with it and for some others to get disqualified for doing the same things. Abuse is also a vice. So if immorality is accepted at all then human rights or women's rights is like expecting a lion not to eat meat because it is a female sheep

TONTO DIKEH, TIWA SAVAGE AND TOKE MAKINWA

These women have one thing in common; they are entertainers and showbiz people who are currently separated from their husbands. Their reasons are known to many especially for those who follow entertainment and entertainment blogs. My two pence; I thought some people said being a freak in the sheet was a qualification for getting married and that bad girls don marry finish and that God told prophet Hosea to marry a prostitute. Why are these women currently having problems in their marriage or is good sex no longer the most important thing in a marriage? Why are their husbands cheating on them? With girls not half as sexy as they portray themselves to be? It is foolishness to think that sex alone can make a marriage work. You can have sex with anyone, you don't need a marriage for that. No sensible man marries a woman because of sex or because of how good she is in bed. A man marries a woman because of the value she adds to him, sex is just a plus. I read on someone's facebo

THE GAINS AND LOSSES OF THE ABSENCE OF MR PRESIDENT: BY UWAKWE ROLAND.

President Muhammadu Buhari has been absent from duty since the last few months on a purported medical checkup in London. Good a thing he legally transferred power to the Vice President who is now the acting President, this is unlike the imbroglio that played out during Yar’adua’s time when the National Assembly had to invoke the doctrine of necessity so as to effectively transfer power to then Vice President Goodluck Jonathan. The problem is that even as an acting President, Yemi Osinbanjo has limited powers to fully assume responsibility as the commander in chief, this is because most of the big government functionaries may still owe their loyalty to Mr President, couple with this, Buhari appointed people of his like minds who may not comfortably work with the acting President that will want to bring his knowledge of law and practice into governance. Hence the long absence of Mr President may eventually result to a slow down of democratic dividends. The above notwithstan

AS THE WORLD MARKS INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

The 8th of march yearly has been set aside to mark the international day of women. As the world celebrates women and their achievements, it would do us good to x-ray the progress women have made so far and to discuss the issues still troubling the feminine gender. 1.Women have come a long way from where they used to be, when their position in society was to be seen and not heard. From the days where women could not vote or were not allowed to have an education. From the days in Africa where a woman's place was only in the kitchen and in the middle east, her place was only in the bedroom. We remember and salute the struggles of the fighters who gave a voice to women in almost every country of the world. Because despite her relegation to the background in society, women continued to prove that they were capable of more as seen in the lives of great women like queen Moremi, Coretta Scott-king, mrs Funmilayo Ransome-kuti, queen Amina of Zaria etc. These women showed the world

DANGER OF A SINGLE STORY: THE CASE OF OWERRI

It was the young female novelist, Chimamanda Adichie who first drew the world’s attention to the dangers of a single story and warned that if we hear only a single story about another person, city or country, we risk a critical misunderstanding. Hence, I intend to do a series on the danger(s) of a single story. Owerri is the capital city of Imo state with a population of 127,213 people (2006 Census). It is one of the fastest growing cities in Nigeria and based on the relative peace in the city, Owerri attracts a lot of visitors and investors. However, there is a growing perception both in and outside the city that, it is a city of pleasure seekers and yahoo boys. Nduji Chukwudi Destiny, recently posted on his Facebook wall that: “if you are in Owerri and you are not into politics, prostitution or Yahoo, my brother forget it, nothing for you”. While few persons may get some meaning in the above remark by Destiny. I think it is an exaggeration and a wrong generalization w

XENOPHOBIC ATTACKS IN SOUTH AFRICA: MAKING NONSENSE OF THE CATCHING PHRASE “AFRICA FOR AFRICANS”.  Uwakwe Roland C.

It is a truism that any group of people that share common historical and racial affinity have a way of managing their affairs with high sense of devotion, peace and cooperation. Hence the people of Europe after a long historical battle decided to come together as one group of people in the name of European Union. The Arabs have not also hidden their oneness especially in fighting their common enemy, the state of Israel. However the South African natives and her government have shown some level of discontent for the common heritage of Africans. The attack by South Africans to fellow Africans is one of the greatest unkind deeds that have been happening in South Africa since the end of apartheid. Perhaps it is time we redraw the map of Africa to ascertain who we are as a people. Africans cannot face dehumanizing treatment in other Continents and at the same time in our soul, a similar attitude is also playing out in Libya. We agree that South Africa and Nigeria have not been in good ter

IS IGNORANCE TRULY BLISS?

I get offended to say the least when people use God's name in their conversations even when it is clear that they live their lives quite opposite to what he says. People just don't get it. You cant be dressing half naked, acting sex scenes, selling porn and nudity, breaking up other peoples marriages and then say you are going to heaven because you believe in God. Someone even said the only requirement for entering heaven is believing in Jesus. Please don't be deceived and stop spreading lies and deceiving other people as well. Believing in God must go together with repenting of your sins. And no you can't just do some things and be a christian at the same time. Christianity is not organized religion, you don't get to make your own rules.  For the sake of little children watching and listening to entertainment, God is not immoral and doesn't accept the lifestyle of many entertainers. Whatever is not godly is not acceptable to him and many of the people who

THE SPIRIT OF THE PEOPLE OF NIGERIA: UWAKWE ROLAND

There is a popular dictum accepted by democracies all over the world that every democratic nation (people) has the kind of government it deserves. Unlike the other systems of government, democratic nations have the opportunity of electing their leaders from amongst themselves and the dominate ideology is that which is accepted by the people.  Also Von Savigny propounded a theory of law that the nature of any particular system of law had to be a reflection of the spirit of the people who had evolved it. Over the years Nigerians have been apportioning and accusing our leaders of being corrupt, wicked and insensitive to the plight of the people but they have left to ask some critical questions, as where these leaders are coming from, where they were trained, how they formed the opinion of who they are, and to ask whether they are different from the ordinary persons on the street. I think (and I stand to be corrected) that the attitude of our leaders is to an extant a reflection of who w

PRESIDENT BUHARI AND HIS SINCERITY OF PURPOSE

We commend the present government for tackling head on the Boko Haram insurgency and for recording progress. I am however concerned about the spate of killings in southern Kaduna and I am wondering what the federal government is doing about it. Should we not have a wholistic approach when it comes to issues of national interest? And treat every matter with the same level of urgency? Especially issues that deal with groups taking lives of innocent citizens. How sincere is this government in dealing with these issues ? If the president is concerned about tackling insurgency, then shouldn't the incessant killings in southern Kaduna bother him or is he less concerned about it because the killings are targeted at Christians? If president Buhari is interested in solving Nigeria's multi faceted problems then shouldn't he be more proactive? Appointing sharp technocrats who would deliver within a time frame instead of loyalists and political appointees. He has good intentions for
