INDUSTRIALIZATION, SMALL AND MEDIUM SCALE ENTERPRISE AND THE POTENTIAL FOR THE GROWTH OF THE NIGERIAN ECONOMY

Nigeria started with Singapore and today Singapore is a first world nation. In fact as the story goes, Singapore came to Nigeria to learn about palm kernel and its oil and today Singapore is the largest exporter of palm oil.

What did they do differently? Identified the commercial value of a particular produce and then commercialized it in full scale.

Nigeria has a lot of such marketable produce and if fully explored can fetch huge revenue for the government and people of Nigeria.

Take for Instance:
the shoe factory in Aba; Nigeria imports lots of shoes from China. Most of these shoes are low in quality, you have to take it to your cobbler to 'sew' them. What is the difference between these shoes and Aba made shoes? With a little help and support from government and private investors, the shoe factory in Aba can rival the bests in the world.
Take for other examples:

Fruits that are readily available in the country
Tomatoes

The Cocoa plantations

And very recently, Innoson's automobile Industry.

With all these resources and the vast human resources, Nigeria can develop from a third world nation to a nation competing with super powers(the advanced countries).
Imagine the tidal effect; the creation of jobs at all levels and the small and medium scale enterprise that could be borne out of these industries.

This is what Philipines is currently doing. They are gradually building up their manufacturing sector from shoes to sardines to chocolates e.t.c. Philipines is waking up. Their movies says it all.

Food is so cheap in america today that its people are battling with overeating. It can be like that in Nigeria too.

Government should also continue in its strive to lift  people out of poverty. It would also go a long way in boosting the economy and reducing poverty.

Lastly it takes a will from leadership and unity from all the sectors of the Nigerian populace to make this work.

The time is ripe, the time is now to make this happen. I'm on board. Won't you join me?

THE GAINS AND LOSSES OF THE ABSENCE OF MR PRESIDENT: BY UWAKWE ROLAND.

President Muhammadu Buhari has been absent from duty since the last few months on a purported medical checkup in London. Good a thing he legally transferred power to the Vice President who is now the acting President, this is unlike the imbroglio that played out during Yar’adua’s time when the National Assembly had to invoke the doctrine of necessity so as to effectively transfer power to then Vice President Goodluck Jonathan. The problem is that even as an acting President, Yemi Osinbanjo has limited powers to fully assume responsibility as the commander in chief, this is because most of the big government functionaries may still owe their loyalty to Mr President, couple with this, Buhari appointed people of his like minds who may not comfortably work with the acting President that will want to bring his knowledge of law and practice into governance. Hence the long absence of Mr President may eventually result to a slow down of democratic dividends. The above ...

GETTING MARRIED AND BEING SUCCESSFUL AFTER 30

Many people see the big 3.0 as a landmark age. To them at 30 you should have accomplished all your goals, gotten married and had a few kids. This view although popular is sometimes unhealthy , because real success and achievements take time. Not everyone who is unmarried at 30 will marry late or unaccomplished at 30 is a failure. For short term goals and minimal achievements, 30 is fine. I even read about someone bragging on how she had a masters degree and was married with two kids at 30. The question no one asked her was 'what had she done with the masters degree and how her children were faring academically? ' It's not enough to get married and have kids before 30 or even finish a masters degree? Is she fulfilled as a person? Had she discovered purpose and was she on her way to fulfilling it? You see we all want to brag when it seems as if we better than the next person. Alas! Many of us are ignorant. Many Nigerian billionaires became billionaires only after 30, many ...
