LOVE

Lets not go into a full definition. Almost everyone can tell you what they think love is.

My attention has been drawn recently to a group of people breaking up people's marriages claiming they are in love.

But love is pure. You cannot be in love with someone's husband. The rule of marriage says till death do us part. You cannot therefore cause someone to divorce his wife.

Love also is not immoral, it does not bond because of sex.
Love is not selfish or brutal. It gives no room for maltreatment or deceit.

Love is a platform holding a man and woman together and delivering the dividends of such a union to both parties in every area of their lives.

DANGER OF A SINGLE STORY: THE CASE OF OWERRI

It was the young female novelist, Chimamanda Adichie who first drew the world’s attention to the dangers of a single story and warned that if we hear only a single story about another person, city or country, we risk a critical misunderstanding. Hence, I intend to do a series on the danger(s) of a single story. Owerri is the capital city of Imo state with a population of 127,213 people (2006 Census). It is one of the fastest growing cities in Nigeria and based on the relative peace in the city, Owerri attracts a lot of visitors and investors. However, there is a growing perception both in and outside the city that, it is a city of pleasure seekers and yahoo boys. Nduji Chukwudi Destiny, recently posted on his Facebook wall that: “if you are in Owerri and you are not into politics, prostitution or Yahoo, my brother forget it, nothing for you”. RAPE, ITS JUSTIFICATION AND VICTIM SHAMING

It's sad that this is a world where things are not perfect but isn't that why we have laws; to correct the ills in society? I read today on a blog about a filmmaker who said that "nonviolent rape" should be legalized and that the reason rapists were raping girls was because they were sexually frustrated and that girls should accept it and even prepare themselves for it by carrying condoms and cooperating with their rapists. In fact it is clear that civilization is beyond running water and having flushable toilets, a lot of minds are still in a dark place. Before you join the number of people condemning him, think of how you shame victims of rape by suggesting that somehow they did something to provoke the animal instinct in the rapist.
